A young boy from Conwy had a birthday to remember when he received a special visit from a large teddy wearing a police uniform.

Under normal circumstances, Oliver Perry would have celebrated his 8th birthday with family and friends at Ysgol Gogarth in Llandudno over the weekend.

But as it was not possible his gran decided to contact the West Conwy Policing Team to ask for help.

When ‘PC Ted’ turned up with an armful of balloons, cards, badges and a cake, Oliver, who has cerebral palsy, could not believe his eyes.

“He was absolutely amazed,” said his mum, Liz Perry.

“In the past Oliver has had some bad dealings with the police, but this made him realise that they do good things.

“The officers made such an effort. It was such a nice treat for him. They were all fantastic and we can’t thank them enough.”

Sgt Kim Owen, who was responsible for organising the surprise, said: “It was a pleasure to do this special visit. The family appeared to be really happy at us visiting while little Oliver didn’t stop smiling the whole time we were there.

“When I was contacted by Oliver’s grandmother asking if we could attend, we were more than happy to arrange to see him and to be a part of his birthday. We just tried to make it a little special in these circumstances.”

She also expressed her thanks to Penmaenmawr Cards and Gifts for donating the balloons and Tesco for donating the cake.
