Work to demolish Rhyl building which posed ‘danger to public’ nears completion

Work to demolish an unsafe building in Rhyl is nearing completion.

The demolition of 123-125 High Street has been undertaken to secure the site following a survey by structural engineers who deemed the building unsafe and a danger to the public.

During the work, a painted sign was uncovered on the side of number 119, as pictured above.

Progress on the demolition means the Lower High Street is now open to traffic.

Contractors Wye Valley Construction carried out demolition works on behalf of Denbighshire County Council.

Emlyn Jones, the Council’s Head of Planning, Public Protection and Countryside Services, said: “The demolition of these buildings was required to keep the public safe.

“The work is being completed as quickly as possible while ensuring it is carried out safely.

“We appreciate the disruption caused by the road closure and would like to thank businesses and members of the public for their patience and understanding during this period.

“This building plays a part in our wider vision to regenerate Rhyl Town Centre and will complement other development works involved in this project.

“Although no formal plans have been drawn up or adopted for the site, we will work with the community and carry out a full consultation on any plans, which will be subject to the planning process, as they develop.”
