New Tywyn Cafe Proposal Could Bring Sweet Treats to Seaside Town

A Gwynedd seaside town could get a new venue offering hot and cold treats if new proposals area accepted.
Gwynedd planners are to consider plans to convert a seafront hairdressers at Tywyn into an ice cream, dessert and coffee shop.
The plans, submitted by Gian Tour of Tywyn Foods Limited, suggest the shop would sell everything from whipped ice creams and milk shakes to cakes, freshly made donuts and waffles, to hot drinks.
Cyngor Gwynedd has received a full application for the change of use of the Billie Jean hairdressers in the town, which is popular with holidaymakers in the summer months.
The bright pink building on Marine Parade is located next door to the Buccaneer Café and just in front of the Glan Y Mor centre, close to the beach.
Within the main section, the plans describe the location for a glass chiller for the display of desserts, a glass cake display, a double fridge unit, as well as a waffle machine, area for ‘Mr Whippy,’ milkshakes, slush drinks and donut making machines, a counter flap, as well as two sections labelled for ‘Marshfield ice-cream’ and a bain-marie for toppings.
The plans also includes a storeroom area, with a sink and worktop counter.
The plans note: “We would be looking to add a bird box to the side of the building to help towards the improvement for small birds as a form of mitigation, and improvement in biodiversity/ ecology.”
An access statement said: “Parking is available at the front on the road giving ease of access.
“Ample parking is available across the road by means of a large public car park.
“Access to the property is from the main pavement, direct access as there is no fencing or barriers to go through.
“The doors open wide enough for disabled access either by walking aids or by wheelchair.
“A ramp will be provided for ease of access.”
The application was submitted to Gwynedd planners on March 3, 2024, and a consultation over the scheme ends on May 22, 2024.
