Players and staff at Rhyl Golf Club have been subjected to abuse by people using the course as a short-cut, police have revealed.

Officers said problems had arisen with anti-social behaviour following the closure of part of the town’s promenade. which runs along East Parade and the Coast Road.

It has led to a significant increase in footfall along a path which runs through the middle of the golf course.

Police have received several calls from staff regarding walkers, holidaymakers and cyclists straying onto the playing area.

They said: “Some are then being verbally abusive to players and staff when asked to stay on the path.

“The club are looking into new fencing and gates and local officers will be working closely with the club to deal with any complaints.

“PCSO Sabrina has provided the club with posters to go up around the path to highlight the issue and to give a gentle reminder to stay on the path as being hit by a golf ball will hurt.”
