Anglesey – more information from North.Wales

North Wales news and information

Travel as far as you can go through mainland Wales to the north west and you’ll eventually reach the island of Anglesey. Reached by either the Menai Bridge or the Britannia Bridge, the island is home to miles of coastline, designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

If you are thinking of visiting Anglesey in Wales, here are some useful things to know.

Information about the Anglesey show

Every year for two days in August, the Anglesey Agricultural Show throws open its gates and welcomes visitors to view competitions, displays, and shows. Open from around 8am each day, the event takes place at the Showground in Gwalchmai, Holyhead.

Rev your engines to experience the Anglesey circuit

From two wheels to four and novice to pro, the Anglesey circuit is a major attraction on the island. Circuit days and track days occur throughout the year, with various driving experiences offered on other days. Learn how to skid safely, drive around the circuit, or take an advanced course to further your driving skills.

Which Anglesey beaches should you check out?

With miles of coastline to explore, it is possible to follow the coastal path for the complete 124-mile trip around the island. Cemaes Bay is worth a look, especially as it is home to the popular Traeth Bach (translated as small beach and giving you an idea of what to expect).

The prize for most picturesque may just go to Porth Dafarch, a sandy stretch hugged by rocks on either side. It’s good if you love scuba diving too. For a beach with lots of facilities, a safe bathing area, and a long stretch of sand, try Trearddur Bay.

Where is Anglesey airport?

Anglesey airport provides a convenient way to reach the island from Cardiff. It is located at RAF Valley, Holyhead, over to the west of the island. Flights are provided by Flybe. If you require a hire car when you arrive at the airport, you should note this must be booked ahead of your arrival as you cannot do so once you are there.

Just in case… more information about Anglesey A&E

If you need treatment at an A&E department while on Anglesey, Ysbyty Cefni in Llangefni is your best bet. This is in quite a central position on the island. If you are closer to the border with mainland Wales, Ysbyty Gwynedd may be a better option. This isn’t far from the Menai Bridge, on the left as you leave the bridge via the North Wales Expressway.
