A man has been jailed for 33 weeks in relation to a series of offences carried out in the Bangor and Caernarfon areas.

Carl Oliver was sentenced for assaulting a police officer, shoplifting and public order offences and has also been given a three year Criminal Behaviour Order.

Acting Inspector Chris Hargrave said: “Police officers are there to help the public and this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.

“We will always take firm action against those who attack officers and put other emergency workers in danger through violent behaviour.

“The sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime.”

North Wales Police Federation secretary Mark Jones added: “It is only right that those individuals who attack police officers, whilst they are doing their duty, should face a custodial sentence.

“Police officers, or any other emergency service for that matter, do not go to work to be hurt.

“There has to be a clear message that any assault on an emergency service worker is an assault on society as a whole. It is, and always will be, completely unacceptable.”
