A Gwynedd football club has submitted plans to improve its ground amid a battle to stay in the third tier of Welsh football.

CPD Llanuwchllyn, which plays in the Wrexham Area Premier Division, needs to meet stricter ground criteria to retain its position in the footballing pyramid of Wales.

But having launched a £47,000 appeal to fund the necessary improvements, plans have now been submitted to the Snowdonia National Park Authority for a new 100 seater stand at their Cae Gwalia ground.

According to the club, which has launched a crowdfunding page to help reach their target, unless the stricter criteria is reached they will be unable to maintain their current standing.

“The club was established in 1957 and over the years has offered many local youths their first footballing experience and we wish to continue to do so.

“We provide income for our village hall by using its facilities, and Llanuwchllyn Agricultural Show and Llanuwchllyn Festival benefit from using the playing field.

“The village nursery also benefits from selling refreshments on match days, which provides them with a small income.

“We are the only Welsh language club in this league and host all our activities bilingually which we believe is very important to promote the Welsh language amongst sport in Wales.

“This project will secure the future of our Football Club. We have worked hard locally to fund raise for this project because of its importance to the whole community.”

The plans, which have been submitted to the Snowdonia National Park Authority, have already receiving the backing of the local community council.

Its expected that a decision will be made over the coming weeks.
