30 children self isolating after Ysgol Frongoch pupil tests positive for Covid-19

Thirty children in are self-isolating after a primary pupil tested positive for Covid-19.

The case was reported at Ysgol Frongoch primary school, Denbigh, and parents were alerted by letter on Tuesday.

Denbighshire county council’s lead member for education said the school and the local authority were working with Test, Trace and Protect teams and “following Welsh Government guidelines” to contain the coronavirus.

All other classes at the site will continue as normal and and the area has been subject to a deep clean.

Cllr Huw Hilditch-Roberts, who lead on education for the council, said: “I can confirm one pupil tested positive for coronavirus.
“Denbighshire Council is following health advice and informed parents and guardians by letter on Tuesday.

“Thirty children from the same classroom will be required to self-isolate for 14 days and this is a precautionary measure.”

Cllr Hilditch-Rpoberts said the school acted quickly  and has followed “stringent hygiene processes” and would continue to do so to reduce “as much contact as possible with other pupils”.

He added: “We are working with Test, Trace and Protect to provide information for families and the rest of the school continues to stay open.

“Rest assured the processes in place in all our schools follow Welsh Government guidelines.”

Ysgol Frongoch is an English medium primary school situated on Rhyl Road in the town – and is home to around 200 pupils up to the age of 11.

It lies close to three housing estates and was rated as “Good” in it last Estyn report in 2014.
