Visitors told to take rubbish home as pictures show volume of litter left behind at beauty spots
Visitors have been told to take their rubbish home after pictures were released showing the volume of litter left behind at beauty spots in and around North Wales this weekend.
The images show water bottles, multi-packs of beer, crisp packets and other waste left strewn across countryside locations, including Llyn Tegid in Bala and Llanrhaeadr Waterfall in the north of Powys.
Llanfyllin Town Council said residents felt “disgraced” by the mess left behind and described the people who dumped the rubbish as “irresponsible”.
In a post sent to North.Wales on Twitter, they said providing more bins was not the solution.
They said: “This is (due to) unprecedented amounts of tourism. Putting more bins is not the answer as workers have to collect the bins.
“This puts them at risk of COVID-19 transmission. We need to get people to take their own rubbish home with them.”
There has been a widespread debate over the last few weeks about whether the large amount of tourists currently visiting the region are having a detrimental impact.
It follows reports of parking problems in Snowdonia and other areas, as well as campers acting anti-socially.
It has led police to launch a crackdown on dangerous parking at Pen y Pass.
