Solution on horizon for closed bridge which has ‘negatively impacted’ businesses
A potential solution appears to be on the horizon for a bridge which closed suddenly in a move which is said to have harmed local businesses.
Residents are being encouraged to take part in a consultation event being held by Conwy County Borough Council regarding the future of the historic Sappers Bridge crossing in Betws y Coed.
The bridge, which links both sides of the community, was closed suddenly in December 2021, and has remained shut ever since.
According to local Senedd Member Janet Finch-Saunders, the closure is having a detrimental impact on residents and local businesses, with hotels missing out on bookings.
The drop in session is taking place between 1pm and 6.30pm on Friday 17 November 2023, at St. Mary’s Church Hall in Betws y Coed.
Ms Finch-Saunders said: “Conwy county now has options for a solution to this terrible problem, and would like to get the community’s input. It is essential that residents take this opportunity to have a say.
“Like many, I am very disappointed at the lack of urgency with which the local authority has progressed this project. In fact, this drop-in event is months behind schedule.
“Businesses and residents have been negatively affected, to the point that the community meeting I held in June made clear that a short term temporary solution is required. I urge residents to attend the meeting on 17 November”.
