Police are seeking information on illegal metal detecting which has occurred at a historic castle in Llangollen.

Officers have today received confirmation from Cadw that people have been trying to unearth items within the remains of Castell Dinas Bran.

Members of the rural crime team said it was unclear whether any artefacts were taken.

The medieval castle sits in a prominent position overlooking the town and is thought to have been built in the 1260s by Gruffydd Maelor II, a prince of Powys Fadog.

Anyone with information on the illegal activity is asked to contact police by calling 101 or via the web chat function on the North Wales Police website.
