Police name woman who died in Menai Straits jet ski collision
Police have named a woman who died in a collision between a jet ski and a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) on the Menai Straits.
At 7.29pm on Saturday, North Wales Police were notified about the incident by the ambulance service.
Jane Walker, a 52 year old passenger on the RIB, from the Staffordshire area was taken ashore after being injured and was treated by an ambulance crew. Despite the best efforts of medics, she later died.
Following her death, police are appealing for anyone who witnessed or filmed jet skis and a RIB being used on the Menai Straits between 5pm and 7.45pm to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Kearney said: “Following Mrs Walker’s death, North Wales Police has commenced an investigation to ascertain the sequence of events leading up to this collision.
“Our initial enquiries indicate that at the time, the boat and jet ski were on the Menai Straits at a location between the slipway in Menai Bridge and the pier in Bangor.
“The coroner for North West Wales Mr Dewi Pritchard Jones has been informed, and we are continuing to liaise with the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) into the circumstances of this collision.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mrs Walker at this time.”
Jane’s family are reported to be “deeply shocked and devastated” by the loss of their family member.
They have asked for their privacy to be respected so they can grieve and come to terms with what has happened.
