Police issue dispersal order in Denbigh in crackdown on youth disorder

A dispersal order has been issued in Denbigh following problems with youths involved in anti-social behaviour.

The order, effective for the area shown on the map above, came into effect at 7.15pm yesterday evening and will remain in place until 7.15pm tomorrow (Saturday).

Police said this was due to “repeated and ongoing issues” of disorder, assault, and anti-social behaviour involving local youths, who have been congregating in large groups.

The order means that officers can ask a group of two or more people to leave the dispersal area if they are doing anything wrong, or if they believe that they may or are likely to cause a nuisance to someone else.

Police may ask you to leave the area and not to return within 24 hours. If you are aged under 16 and in the dispersal area without the supervision of an adult after 9pm, officers may take you home if it is safe to do so.

Anyone found returning to the area after being asked to leave will be arrested. Police said charges and court action could follow, potentially leading to a criminal record.

In a post on Facebook, officers from the Conwy and Denbigh Rural local policing team said: “As long as you don’t do anything wrong, or give the police a reason to suspect you are going to do anything wrong, the dispersal order will not affect you.

“Parent and guardians: ensure you know where your young people are and that they are aware of this order. We will not tolerate any further anti-social behaviour which impacts upon the wider community.”
