Police investigate after badger killed in suspected shooting near Porthmadog

Police are investigating the death of a badger near Porthmadog which is suspected to have been shot with a rifle.

The animal, protected under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992, was discovered in the Tremadog area of Gwynedd by a member of the public, on Sunday (October 31st).

It came after they had heard the noise of an animal screaming at around 5am that morning.

PC Dewi Evans of the Rural Crime Team said: “Sadly, the badger was found to have died of its injuries, which we suspect were caused as a result of being shot by a rifle.

“We will continue to work with partners in tackling abhorrent incidents such as these.

“I am now appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area, or anyone with information, to get in touch with us on 101, or via the website, using reference 21000759836.”
