Outdoor Activity Centre Plans New Adventure Cave and High Ropes Course

An outdoor activity centre has submitted plans for a new adventure cave and high ropes course.
Plas Menai, The National Outdoor Centre for Wales, based near Caernarfon, has submitted the proposals to Gwynedd Council.
The centre, which provides a range of water and land based activities, wants to build a new cave attraction and replace its existing high ropes course with a new one.
Located beside the Menai Strait at Llanfair Is Gaer, the tourism centre provides dozens of attractions for families, school groups and individuals, as well as accommodation.
Activities include everything from sea kayaking, to paddle-boarding, yachting to swimming classes, mountain biking, to woodland den-building and rock and rope activities.
The latest proposals concern an 1800 square metre area of the centre’s site, in an area adjacent to Parc Jackson and an existing car park.
The application is for “the replacement of an existing high ropes course with a new high ropes course, and an adventure cave installation”.
Materials required for the new activities include timber and ropes and describe plans for “fibreglass caves”.
A drawing of a cave system shows entrances and exits, tunnels, and is complete with a cavern feature, as well as areas with stalagmites and stalactites.
There is also an “up and over” section, a choke, squeeze and flattener, and break down areas to crawl through.
The caving activity is marked as being 8.5m x 5.5m in size.
The proposed high ropes activity shows a 3mx3m square tower and high ropes and frame, and is located beside an existing low ropes course.
The rope feature would be 5.2m wide and 11m high.

Parkwood Leisure manages 75 leisure centre facilities on behalf of 31 local authorities throughout England and Wales.
The plans were submitted to Cyngor Gwynedd planners last week and are under planning consultation until May 15.
