A passionate history student is preparing for the next chapter of her academic journey after enjoying an inspiring and memorable time at college.

Libby Rush, 18, from Buckley, has secured a place at the University of Liverpool to study History after completing A Levels in History, Sociology and Criminology at Coleg Cambria’s Deeside Sixth Form Centre.

A former pupil of Elfed High School, Libby is now looking forward to building on her love of the subject while exploring future career opportunities in education, museums or the heritage sector.

Reflecting on her time at Cambria, she praised the support she received from staff and the opportunities available beyond the classroom.

“I have really enjoyed my time at Deeside Sixth,” said Libby.

“My subject teachers, in particular Sam, Gwen and Andy, have been really supportive, helping me with practice questions and giving me feedback on my coursework.

“They all have such a genuine passion for the subjects they teach, which I think has massively helped me engage with lessons and become interested in my subjects.”

While her studies remained the priority, Libby also took part in educational visits that brought her learning to life.

One of the highlights was a trip to New York, where she was able to experience first-hand many of the places she had learned about in history lessons.

“I loved my time in New York with sixth form,” she said.

“It was so cool to see things I have learnt about in history like Wall Street and Ellis Island. My favourite parts were seeing the Statue of Liberty and shopping on Fifth Avenue. It was such a great experience which I am so, so grateful for.”

Looking ahead, Libby hopes to turn her enthusiasm for history into a rewarding career.

“I’m not yet certain what I would like to do in the future, but I know I’d love to do something with history,” she added.

Mim Riddell, Head of Deeside Sixth Form and Assistant Principal for Academic Studies at Coleg Cambria, said: “Libby has been a dedicated and enthusiastic student who has embraced every opportunity available to her during her time with us.

“Her passion for history, commitment to her studies and positive attitude have been evident throughout. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and wish her every success as she begins this exciting new chapter at the University of Liverpool.”
