North Wales fire service receives 200 calls as flooding destroys bridge and forces residents from homes
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service has received around 200 calls after flooding destroyed a bridge and forced residents to abandon their homes in the region.
Firefighters and officers attended 56 incidents out of that amount throughout yesterday and overnight into this morning, rescuing 28 people in the process.
The flooding occurred as Storm Christoph hit the region, bringing torrential downpours with it.
Two major incidents were declared in Ruthin and Bangor-on-Dee, Wrexham, leading to the evacuation of dozens of residents as water entered their homes.
Rest centres were set up in both communities as emergency teams dealt with the deluge.
Footage has also emerged of a bridge which has been swept away that links Trefnant and Tremeirchion in Denbighshire.

A number of people have also been rescued from their cars after getting stuck in flood water with firefighters attending more than a dozen such incidents.
It includes a man who got stuck in deep water and was stranded on the roof of his car after he tried to drive through a river ford along the road from Llandygai to Bangor.
The large amount of flooding has led to calls for the Welsh Government to deliver a package of support for residents impacted.
