A man has been found guilty of an assault which left a 10-month-old baby with a life-changing brain injury.

Joshua Michael Morris, 29, who is formerly from Old Colwyn, was found guilty by a jury at Mold Crown Court yesterday.

It followed a seven-day trial that heard details of how he assaulted the infant in January 2018.

The verdict has been welcomed by Detective Chief Inspector Sion Williams, who led the investigation.

He said: “We welcome the unanimous and swift verdict of the jury, who sadly had to be subjected to the grave details of what happened that dreadful January morning.

“There are no winners in this case and I hope Mr Morris will now have time to reflect, finally show some remorse and take responsibility for the devastating effect his actions have had on a little baby and indeed their wider family.
“Some of those family members demonstrated great courage in challenging circumstances to try to assist the investigation team.”
He added: “As a result of this momentary act of violence, this child’s future has catastrophically changed, having sustained a life-changing brain injury during the incident.
“That injury will now require life-long professional care and whilst in my opinion no punishment can ever compensate for that, we look forward to sentencing of Mr Morris on December 9th 2020.
DC Beki Hutt said: “This has been an extremely difficult and distressing case, not only for the investigation team and the Complex Casework Unit of the Crown Prosecution Service, but also for all the other professionals involved; from those paramedics initially responding to the 999 call through to the paediatric teams in BCUHB and Alder Hey Hospital who undoubtedly saved the life of this young child.
“Likewise, this heart-breaking case affected those working alongside us in Conwy County Borough Council Social Services and indeed the various experts who subsequently assisted us to meticulously piece together the sequence of events that unearthed how a defenceless 10-month-old baby was assaulted at the hands of someone who should really have been looking after them.”
