A man from Liverpool has been arrested after he was found camping on a beach during coronavirus restriction checks on the Llŷn Peninsula.

Police were called to Porthor Beach near Aberdaron yesterday following concerns raised by the local community.

On arrival the 38-year-old was found to be in breach of his court bail conditions and then also resisted arrest.

He was taken to the Caernarfon Custody Suite and will appear before magistrates this morning charged with resisting arrest. He will also be dealt with for the breaching of his court bail conditions.

District Inspector Matt Geddes said: “The Gwynedd South team have been out over the weekend conducting road checks and premises checks in support of the government restrictions in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“These checks will continue, so think carefully before travelling and be prepared for your local policing team to ask you what you’re up to!

“The above incident is an isolated one, and the overwhelming majority of people we have had contact with are not only complying with the restrictions, but both are understanding and supportive of our actions when stopped and spoken to.”
