Anglesey drug dealer ordered to sell home as police aim to prove ‘crime doesn’t pay’

An Anglesey drug dealer has been ordered to sell his home under a Proceeds of Crime Act Confiscation Order.

David Cuffin, 44, previously of Ponthwfa Terrace, Holyhead, received a jail sentence of six years and nine months in 2018 for conspiracy to supply cocaine and heroin in connection with an investigation known as Operation Zeus.

He was responsible for storing drugs and mixing agents at his home, in a drugs conspiracy valued at over £2.7million.

Financial Investigator Jessica Cunnah said: “These drug dealers made a substantial amount of money through their illegal business so it is only right that they are made to pay for their actions and return their ill-gotten gains.

“It has taken a great deal of tenacity and attention to detail to obtain confiscation orders that allows the recovery of their assets.

“North Wales Police is committed to seizing and confiscating assets from those who benefit from any criminality, in particular drug trafficking in our communities.

“The laundering of proceeds of crime is a key enabler of the most serious and organised crime. By targeting criminal finances including their homes we can disrupt criminal operations and deny them their ill-gotten wealth and status.

“The Proceeds of Crime Act is a vital piece of legislation that helps us achieve this end. It prevents criminals from continuing to reap the benefits of their illegal activities even after they have been arrested, charged and sent to prison.

“We will continue to take action against convicted criminals to prove that crime really does not pay, and you may lose more than your liberty if you deal drugs in North Wales.”
