Health Board slammed for “broken tap running for two months”
A broken tap running water for two months is “symptomatic” of the issues faced by a troubled North Wales health board, a Denbighshire councillor has claimed.
A video of the running tap, in a toilet at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd’s emergency department, was taken on October 11.
Above the tap, a wall sticker reveals the issue was reported on August 7.
A Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board spokesperson said the tap has now been fixed.
Denbighshire County Council councillor Chris Evans was sent the video of the tap by a concerned constituent.
The Tremerchion councillor said: “A running tap is a plain, easy fix, isn’t it? I think it sums up what is wrong with Betsi that they can’t even sort a running tap that’s been running since August,” he said.
The board has been in special measures for much of the last decade.
He added: “Things are not getting any better with the health board, are they? If we can’t sort the basics out, how are we going to sort these things out for the patients?
“It’s not good for the environment. It’s a waste of water. Why can’t we just replace the tap? It shows how bad Betsi is. It’s symptomatic of a bigger problem.”
A health board spokesman said: “Issues like faulty taps, as seen by the councillor more than a fortnight ago, are regularly reported to our estates teams who deal with them promptly. This one has been repaired.”
