Plaid Cymru’s Liz Saville-Roberts holds Dwyfor Meirionnydd

There was no upset in Dwyfor Meirionnydd with Plaid Cymru’s Liz Saville Roberts comfortably retaining  her seat for the party.
The Labour vote collapsed in line with national trends, while the Conservatives will have been disappointed not to have capitalised on the increase in the parties vote across the UK.
Dwyfor Meirionnydd voted for remain in the 2016 European referendum and Mrs Saville Roberts, the leader of her party at Westminster, was prominent in advocating the case for another referendum.
The Plaid Cymru vote went up 760 with the party comfortably retaining the seat.
Liz Saville Roberts said: “It is an honour to be returned here in Dwyfor Meirionnydd with the highest vote that Plaid has ever had in a General Election in this constituency.
“Going back to a tough House of Commons but I give my honest word that I will do best to represent the interests of this area and make sure that we have a strong voice and make sure that Wales too has a strong voice in the challenging politics that we face ahead of us.”
Conservative Party candidate, Tomos Davies, said:”I am absolutely delighted with the exit poll result. And the early indications are that we have been given a strong mandate by the British people and that is testament to the strong campaign we have fought.
“It also shows the growing discontent with the Welsh Labour Government here which has been reflected as we campaigned across the constituency. There is an obligation now not to squander this mandate and rebuild our political system.”
The final result for the constituency was Liz Saville-Roberts, Plaid Cymru, 14,447, Tomos Davies, Conservative, 9,707, Louise Hughes, Brexit, 1,776, Graham Hogg, Labour, 3,998.
