The conversion of a Bangor furniture warehouse into a car dealership has been approved by council planners.
Gwynedd Council’s planning officers have green lighted the bid to convert the Pine Mine on Holyhead Road, which stands near Bangor City FC’s Nantporth stadium.
The proposals, submitted by JRC North Wales Ltd, include a site for selling cars which is set to create one part-time and two full-time jobs while “securing the long-term future of the building”.
Planning officers, finding the plans to be acceptable, said in their report: “Given the site’s planning history as well as the previous business use of furniture makers (and a former tire center) it is believed that this current proposal is not going to have a significant impact on the amenities of nearby users on the grounds of noise disturbance.
“The Transportation Unit has no objection to the planning application on the basis of parking requirements or grounds road safety. The proposal is therefore acceptable on the basis of the requirements of Policy TRA2 and TRA4 of the LDP.”
The design and access statement, accompanying the application, added: “The property in recent years has suffered from a lack of investment. The proposed change of use will require investment which will restore the external fabric of this prominent property”,

“Customer car parking is being provided to the front of the property and is accessed off Holyhead Road via an existing signposted access.
“In view of the above, the existing building, proposed new use and Planning Policy we feel that the proposed change of use as identified on the accompanied plans would ensure the building has a sustainable use for the future.”
