Caernarfon Rugby Club’s bid to install 3G pitch is approved

Planners have approved a Rugby club’s bid to install a new 3G pitch.

Caernarfon Rugby Club had submitted the plans for the synthetic surface on part of the existing training ground on Y Morfa.

The 60m x 40m pitch, described as suitable for football as well as Rugby, will  not be full-sized pitch, however,  suitable only for skills training or smaller scale matches.

Once built it will be the latest in a line of such facilities in Gwynedd, with Bangor already boasting such synthetic pitches at both Nantporth and Bangor University’s Treborth playing fields – the homes of Bangor City FC and Bangor 1876 respectively.

The officers’ report accompanying the decision notice, states that no objections were raised during the consultation phase but that the work must commence within five years.

“This is a full application for the installation of a 3G artificial surface on the Caernarfon Rugby Club practice pitch which is located adjacent to the rugby club and club team’s playing fields.

“The intention is to continue to use the pitch for rugby practice but it will also be available for football practice for children under 10/11. The size of the artificial field will be 60m long and 20m wide and the existing field has been flattened in the past by bringing in soil to level the southern part of the field.

“The proposal will also involve undertaking the field drainage works by installing perforated drains running across the field with the surface water then discharged into the existing flow control chamber at the south east corner of the field.

“There is no intention to undertake any other work as resources such as floodlights are already present around the practice pitch.”
