Historic Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in Flintshire set to become four-bedroom cottage
A 197-year-old Wesleyan Methodist chapel in Flintshire may soon be transformed into a four-bedroom cottage.
Seion Chapel in Lloc was originally built in 1810, but was rebuilt in 1829 in its current form. Built to serve as a place of worship for members of the Wesleyan Methodist Church – a religious group considered a minority in Wales where the Calvinistic Methodist faith was typically more common – it was last used as a chapel in the year 2000.
For 26 years it has lay vacant – now plans have been brought forward to turn the site into a home.
According to the planning documents: “The chapel no longer serves its original community or religious function and now presents an
opportunity for sensitive conversion and long-term reuse.
“Its scale, stone construction and traditional architectural character contribute positively to the local area and provide a strong basis for residential adaptation.”
Under the proposals the frontal exterior of the building will remain as it stands to preserve its historic character, with new landscaping and boundary treatments at the back along with a proposed flat roof extension.
The site will have three off-street parking spaces to prevent traffic issues and will include features like sash windows to further preserve its character.
Flintshire County Council’s Planning Department is expected to make a decision on the application by Tuesday, September 29.
