The fire service has issued an alert after a lightning strike damaged a property in a community near the border between Conwy and Denbighshire.

Firefighters were called to an address in Kinmel Bay after a chimney was hit, leaving a hole in the roof during the storms which arrived in the region last night.

They are now urging to residents to take safety precautions with more bad weather on the way.

A spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “We attended an incident in Kinmel Bay last night where a lightning strike to a chimney caused damage to the roof.

“With more storms predicted, test your smoke alarms are working and check out the Met Office’s advice to stay safe in a thunderstorm.”
