Council in Chaos Over Bin Collection System Looks to Hire New Waste Manager

A council currently in the midst of a chaotic rollout of a new bin collection scheme wants to hire a new waste and recycling manager.
Denbighshire Council has been slammed for the “disastrous” rollout of a new Trolibocs recycling system.
Both the council’s leader and chief executive have repeatedly apologised as thousands of residents haven’t had their rubbish collected, some for as long as three weeks.
The uncollected rubbish is said to be down to the council misjudging how long the new rounds would take, despite, some councillors say, refuse collectors warning the new system wouldn’t work.
And now the authority is looking to recruit a new waste manager.
Advertised on the council website, the job advert reads: “The main purpose of the role is to maintain and develop the council’s waste management strategy and to manage the waste & recycling service.
“The Waste & Recycling Manager will be responsible for managing all directly provided waste management operations and services.
“They will also manage our commissioned services, including environmental enforcement for littering, dog fouling, and dogs in unauthorised areas.
“Another important element of the role will be to ensure that the council continues to achieve the Welsh Government targets for recycling and landfill diversion.”
The Local Democracy Reporting Service approached Denbighshire County Council for a comment, asking the authority to provide context to the job vacancy.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting yesterday, Cllr Huw Hilditch-Roberts slammed the handling of the roll-out.
“I called it a shambles, but I’m at the point now where I’m calling it a disaster because we are two weeks further down the line and there are people who haven’t had a collection since May,” he said.
