New Pet Crematorium Proposed for Llanrhos Farm

Llanrhos could soon have a new pet crematorium.
Mark Rotherford, of Tyn y Coed Farm, Llanrhos, has applied to Conwy’s planning department, seeking permission for a change of use of a former hay barn.
The landowner wants to convert the barn into two new business units and a pet crematorium.
Mr Rotherford already has the go-ahead for the crematorium at the farm but has now sought further permission to move the facility and incinerator to another building on the site.
“It is a working farm, and we do various bits and bobs to diversify the income for the farm and that includes, obviously, farming, but we also do the big pop-up campsite called Camp Llandudno every year, which has just finished,” said Mr Rotherford.
“There is some glamping, safari tents, and a little caravan site as well, so really the pet crematorium is just another string to the bow.
“It is a bit of a derelict farm, so there’s permission in the old hay barn for two business units and permission for holiday lets in some of the old buildings as well.
“We will convert the hay barn into the office units, and one of the business units will be used for the administration for the pet crematorium.”
He added: “It is important to clarify it is not a pet cemetery. It is a pet crematorium, so we do not do burials. We already have permission for the pet crematorium, so we are gearing up to start it early next year, and this application is an application to move the cremation machinery, the incinerator, to a different building at the farm.”
The conversion would include walls constructed of stone brick pillars and timber boards, slate roofs and corrugated sheeting, stone walls, and access with a gravel finish and ‘grasscrete’ paving.
The business unit is proposed to be open 8 am – 7 pm and the pet crematorium 8 am – 7 pm.
The crematorium will involve incinerations and the processing of deceased animals.
According to the application, neighbours are yet to be consulted.
The application will likely be considered by Conwy’s planning committee at a future Bodlondeb meeting.
