A council will hold a cabinet meeting to discuss “emergency governance measures” next week.

The announcement that Conwy will hold the session on March 24 comes in the wake of it cancelling others over fears of large gatherings transmitting Covid-19 coronavirus.

Conwy and Denbighshire councils both cleared their calendars following “recent advice” regarding the spread of the virus.

Denbighshire also has a cabinet meeting planned for the same date (March 24) to discuss the latest developments around the Covid-19 pandemic.

It has cancelled all other meetings up to the end of the month apart from its planning committee.

It means most meetings of the councils have now been shelved over the next fortnight.

A Conwy council spokeswoman said: “Following recent advice around Covid-19 and with the aim of reducing/slowing down the spread of the virus we have been asked to review the necessity for meetings (especially large meetings with over 10 people attending).”

A Denbighshire council spokesman said the authority had not yet made a decision on how it would conduct meetings as the pandemic progresses.

Conwy council’s next planning meeting, which has 16 members on its committee, is scheduled to go ahead on April 1.

Meanwhile schools in both counties remain open with the authorities awaiting Government advice on if and when they should close. All are due to break for Easter on April 3.
