Housing company signals intention to build 116 new homes in Gresford

A housing company has signalled its intention to build 116 new homes in a village in Wrexham.

Norris Jones Developments has launched a consultation ahead of submitting plans to create a large number of properties on grazing land off Hillock Lane in Gresford.

The draft application documents outline a mixture of one to five bedroom houses, all with private parking and gardens.

Representatives said the scheme would deliver a number of improvements, including the widening of Hillock Lane and a new footpath.

In a planning statement, they said: “In developing this proposal the design and consultant team have sought to deliver a desirable high quality living environment.

“The mix of properties from one to five bedrooms will appeal to a broad range of buyers and ensure the development supports a vibrant community.

“29 of the new homes will be affordable, managed by a local social housing provider and will provide units with a range of bedroom numbers from one to four.

“The aesthetics of the scheme has been developed to reflect the local vernacular and as such would make a fitting addition to Gresford’s built environment.

“The scheme will provide 116 units towards Wrexham Borough Council’s five year housing requirements which currently cannot be met through existing sites.”

The site is currently allocated as green barrier land within the local authority’s unitary development plan.

However, the company said it was due to be removed under the new local development plan, which is currently being considered by inspectors.

It has also encouraged residents to take part in the consultation exercise.

In a further statement, it said: “The proposal is in the early stages, with the design still evolving.

“As a member of the local community in Gresford, your input is extremely beneficial in shaping the proposals prior to Norris Jones Developments submitting a planning application.

“Following the community consultation, we are intending to submit a planning application to Wrexham County Borough Council this spring.

“The application will be supported by a full set of plans, drawings and technical documents which will be publicly available via the council’s website.”
