Work will resume on a £700,000 flood protection scheme that will help protect homes and businesses in Felinheli.

The work had to be delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak, but work will now resume tomorrow.

The contractors, Anglesey firm OBR Construction, have put social distancing measures in place in line with Welsh Government guidance.

Councillor Catrin Wager, a cabinet member for Gwynedd Council, said: “The health of the public is a priority for us as a council, therefore we are pleased that the contractors are able to work in a safe manner in order to allow the work to resume on this important project.

Flooding caused by Storm Ciara highlights the need for enhanced flood protection to the area, and this work is vital to reducing this risk to properties on Beach Road.

Due to the delay the completion date will be later than expected, with mid-September now likely.”

Councillor Gareth Griffith, who represents Felinheli, added: “I’m pleased that this important work in Felinheli can resume and that arrangements are in place to do so safely.

“There will be some inconvenience to residents such as loss of parking spaces temporarily during the works, but the contractors will seek to minimise any impact on residents.

“From 25 May a short section of the road near Gardd Fôn will be closed for a period of about a week, however local diversions will be available throughout.”

The project has been jointly funded by the council and Welsh Government.

The scheme on Beach Road in the village will provide an improved level of protection to homes, businesses and roads against tidal flooding, including the risk posed by rising sea levels.

Access to all properties will be maintained at all times, with temporary diversions in place occasionally.

Felinheli residents who have any questions about the scheme are asked to contact Elspeth Moncure at OBR Construction Ltd on 01248 667066 or elspeth.moncure@obrconstruction.com
