Police officers have expressed their disbelief after stopping a couple who had travelled all the way from Kent to North Wales to take in the scenery during the coronavirus lockdown.

Members of North Wales Police’s rural crime team came across the pair while out patrolling between Betws y Coed and Llanberis this afternoon.

They now face a court appearance after being reported for breaching the COVID-19 restrictions which have put a ban on non-essential travel.

Officers tweeted a video out with the caption “Words fail me!”

In the footage, PC Dewi Evans said: “We are still in lockdown. We are in week seven now but some people are finding it a bit difficult.

“We have just stopped a couple from Kent who have travelled all the way up to North Wales.

“They have just been coming for a pleasure drive through Betws-y-Coed and Llanberis.

“For their troubles they will be appearing in court for breach of COVID regulations.

“The virus is still ongoing so make sure to keep everyone safe and only carry out essential travel.”
