Woman dies after crash on A496 in Barmouth and four others hospitalised

A woman has died and four other people have been taken to hospital in Stoke following a serious crash in Barmouth.

Emergency services were called at just before 1.15pm today (Friday, 23 August) to reports of a collision involving two cars on the A496 in an area known as the Glandwr Straight.

North Wales Police said that despite the best efforts of emergency teams, one woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her next of kin have been informed.

Three people were airlifted to hospital in Stoke, and one person was taken there by an ambulance.

The region’s police force is now seeking witnesses to the collision, which involved a white Suzuki Ignis and a silver Kia Carens.

Detective Constable Eleri Jones from NWP’s Serious Collisions Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family at this difficult time.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or anybody who may have been travelling along the A496 prior to the collision and who has dash cam footage to contact us as soon as possible. The road remains closed at this time.”
