The Welsh Mountain Zoo has issued its thanks to the public after being inundated with offers of support.

The message was issued by staff at the Colwyn Bay attraction after its plight was recently highlighted.

Due to the coronavirus, the zoo has lost out on a significant amount of income and its chief executive has warned it could be forced to close for good unless coronavirus lockdown restrictions are lifted soon in Wales.

A number of local supermarkets have now started to collect food and bedding donations for the animals.

Along with this, a significant amount of people have started to put together their own collections.

Zoo staff said they were “extremely grateful” for the gestures of kindness, but are running out of storage space.

As a result, they are encouraging supporters to leave any food donations at either Asda in Llandudno or Tesco in Llandudno Junction.

The zoo said: “We have been inundated with offers of support, for which we are truly grateful.

“As we mentioned earlier, our storage space is very limited and is now filling up at a rapid pace.

“As we are sure you can appreciate, some of the items on our list are perishable and we would hate to be in a position where we are unable to use all donated.

“If we have already arranged a drop off time with you over the coming days, we will of course gratefully accept these donations.

“We can still accept food donations in conjunction with our local supermarkets partners with whom this initiative was originally set up.

“We’d like to thank all of our friends and supporters for their help with this initiative. We are truly humbled by the great lengths you have all gone to in order to support our cause.”
