Police have criticised two ‘foolish’ drivers caught speeding at over 70mph across the Britannia Bridge.

A woman, who already had six points on her licence, was clocked driving at 79mph over the bridge between the mainland and Anglesey, while another person was found doing 73mph.

Both were travelling on the westbound carriageway yesterday, where the speed limit is 50mph.

Another driver was also caught doing 41mph on Beach Road in Bangor, which is a 30mph zone, on the same day.

In a post on social media, officers from North Wales Police’s roads policing unit said: “Yet again foolish drivers are taking unnecessary risks by driving at speed, despite our recent warnings.

“We know that the roads are quiet but that is no excuse – the speed limit remains the same.

“Our NHS is already under extreme pressure due to #COVID19, don’t add to it. Slow down.

“Patrols will continue (day and night). Please heed the warning.”
