Two tourists from London have been sent home after travelling to North Wales to climb Snowdon.

The pair have also been reported for breaching coronavirus legislation after their journey to Llanberis.

Police said they were stopped yesterday following assistance from the local community.

Officers are now reminding people not to travel for non-essential purposes.

Posting on Facebook, North Wales Police said: “Residents of Llanberis are abiding by COVID-19 guidance. Sadly two people from London felt differently yesterday, and decided to drive all the way here so they could walk up Snowdon.

“Thankfully, with the help of the local community, we were able to stop the vehicle.

“Driver and passenger were duly advised and sent on their way…but not before being reported for offences under COVID-19 legislation. North Wales is currently closed to visitors.”
