RSPCA’s Clwyd and Colwyn Branch is moving forward on its clinic expansion project to help pet owners in urgent need during the COVID-19 outbreak.

In December it was revealed that the branch was expanding its Vaughan Street clinic in Rhyl – having bought an adjoining building to provide more services to their client base which has reached around 3,500 pet owners.

The clinic is currently open on an appointment basis with staff welcoming just one animal at a time and social distancing being practised, to help curb the spread of coronavirus. The Rhyl Clinic provides affordable veterinary treatment to animals whose owners are in receipt of state benefits, or individuals with an annual income of below £16,000.

Branch treasurer Sylvia Moss said: “The clinic is continuing to provide a service for pet owners during these extremely difficult times, on an appointment only basis.

“Extra hygiene measures are in place to protect staff and visitors and we ask anyone with symptoms of Covid-19 not to visit.

“We are pleased to continue our service and everyone is very understanding of what we all need to do to keep delivering treatment for animals.

“We are now the only functioning clinic in the area dealing with repeat prescriptions, emergencies and regular clients.

“Our three staff are coping extremely well and I’d like to thank them for everything they are doing to help animals.”

Sylvia said that work on the extension has been completed with new portable cages and equipment having been delivered – and are now awaiting for builders to complete fixtures.

“The funding of which has all been provided by local legacies and donations – which we are so very grateful for,” she said.

“We are next hoping to obtain a new x-ray machine, however this is of course very costly.

“Any donations are welcome during this unsettling time so we can continue to care and help as many animals as possible. More information on supporting us can be found online.”

RSPCA branches are self-funding and raise money locally to support the animal welfare work they do.
