Public views are being sought to support the rebuilding of a bridge in Denbighshire which was swept away during Storm Christoph.

Llanerch Bridge, which links Trefnant and Tremeirchion, was wiped out during January’s stormy weather.

Denbighshire Council established a diversion route which takes traffic via the A55 and through St. Asaph following the loss of the 19th century bridge.

A four-week long engagement period is now set to begin next month where the council will seek the views of residents regarding a replacement.

Workshops are being held with consultants and the local authority is in discussion with other partners such as Natural Resources Wales to look at suitable replacement structures and materials for the crossing.

Councillor Brian Jones, lead member for waste, transport and the environment, said: “We fully understand how important historically Llanerch Bridge is to local residents and to the economic resilience of the surrounding area.

“With this in mind we want to hear their thoughts as we look to plan ahead for a potential replacement structure over the River Clwyd to bring back this important route for all.”

As part of the engagement the council will use social media butwill also seek the specific views of residents in both Trefnant and Tremeirchion to ascertain their views on the replacement structure.

The engagement is expected to begin this September.

The information will be used to help develop a business case so that the council can seek funding for the project.
