Police tow cars from Snowdonia amid crackdown on parking chaos
Police have stuck to their guns by cracking down on problem parking in Snowdonia.
Around 60 vehicles were turned away from Pen y Pass before 8am this morning as officers looked to avoid a repeat the chaotic scenes witnessed last weekend.
Drivers reportedly told members of North Wales Police they thought we were “just bluffing” when they said cars would be towed away if obstructing the road.
However, they later confirmed vehicles were being removed from Llyn Ogwen after being parked on a blind bend.
Officers said: “Although at the end of the coned area they’re causing other vehicles to head into opposing lane into a blind right-hand bend. Pedestrians walking into the road due to the blocked pavement. Inconsiderate.”
They added: “Motorists should make full use of the car parking facilities available at Nant Peris & Llanberis as well as at nearby Pen-y-gwryd and to check @visitsnowdonia website for up-to-date details of their car parks. We want you to enjoy the mountain ranges safely but do so responsibly.”
Cones and signs have been put in place around the area to warn people of the restrictions.
Traffic Wales officers have also been monitoring the A5 in Dyffryn Ogwen.
We're working with @visitsnowdonia & @CyngorGwynedd to ensure the safety of hikers & motorists this weekend.
Additional cones have been placed on the #A5 Dyffryn Ogwen to stop illegal parking.
