Police in North Wales have issued a warning after reports of people being spotted walking on ice.

The dangers of frozen surfaces were brought into focus in tragic circumstances following the death of four boys who were pulled from an icy lake in Solihull at the weekend.

Members of the North Wales Police Conwy and Denbigh Rural team have now put a safety reminder out after reports of people straying onto the ice locally.

The team, which covers places like Denbigh, Ruthin and St. Asaph, said on Facebook: “In light of recent tragic events in West Midlands, can we remind everybody of the dangers of going onto frozen waterways. Please do what you can to reinforce this message to children.

“In this area we have a large number of rivers, ponds, lakes and reservoirs often in remote areas and we have recently had reports of people going onto some of them when frozen in the recent cold snap. Please stay safe and stay off the ice.”
