Police in Rhyl given extra powers to tackle street drinking and anti-social behaviour
A new Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) has been granted in Rhyl to deal with anti-social behaviour and street drinking.
PSPOs are designed to give officers extra powers to tackle low-level criminality and public order offences.
It means police can ask people to leave the area covered by the map shown above and told not to return for 48 hours.
It also prevents them from loitering in shop doorways and being intoxicated inside that zone.
In regards to street drinking, people are prohibited from having an open container of alcohol and they can also be asked to surrender their alcohol.
North Wales Police have advised that the order applies to people who are leaving bars and clubs on Water Street and are acting in an anti-social manner.
District Inspector Kevin Smith said: “A PSPO is a useful option to officers when having to persistently deal with issues in a particular area, and I hope that the community will view the implementation of this as a positive action to ensure the safety of law-abiding residents and visitors.
“However, there is no one single solution in dealing with this issue, and I would urge all parents of youths and teenagers who live locally, to know where their young people are going, and remind them of their responsibilities when within the designated PSPO area.
“My officers will, where necessary use these additional powers fairly but robustly, in order that the vast majority of our community feel safe and enjoy visiting our town.”
