Police have highlighted yet another example of bad parking at a North Wales beauty spot over the weekend.

The region’s police force shared an image on Facebook of visitors to Llyn Geirionydd – a lake in Snowdonia – which shows dozens of vehicles blocking the road.

Officers said it could prevent emergency services accessing the area, which sits in a a valley where the Gwydyr Forest meets the lower slopes of the Carneddau mountains, putting lives at risk in the process.

Despite highlighting the dangers, North Wales Police said it did not have enough staff to monitor parking across the region.

It has called on people to take personal responsibility for how they park instead.

In the initial post, the force said: “This was the scene up at Llyn Geirionydd on Saturday…

“Think – could emergency service vehicles access this area safely should they need to respond to an emergency?

“We want everyone to enjoy what our beautiful region has to offer, but please park responsibly and safely and be considerate of others.

“Irresponsible parking endangers yourself, pedestrians and other motorists. If an area is busy have a Plan B.”

An Anglesey resident posted on the status by asking why officers weren’t able to arrive at beauty spots early in the morning to turn people away if it gets too busy.

It follows vehicles parked dangerously being towed away from the Ogwen Valley as part of a joint operation between police and Gwynedd Council.

In response, the force said: “There are not enough resources to be able to do this, as we also have to deal with incidents and crime.

“This is not a unique problem here either, it’s all across the region. People should take personal responsibility over where and how they park. Police should not be needed to reinforce common sense.”
