Two people who shared a taxi after deciding they missed each other too much have been reported by police in Gwynedd for breaching the coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

The pair who live at different addresses were among five individuals alleged to have broken the rules in the last 24 hours after being stopped in a taxi.

The other incidents involved a woman from Manchester who travelled to the Ogwen Valley with her children to “relieve the boredom”.

A man from Liverpool also told a ranger in Snowdonia that he didn’t care about the regulations and was going for a walk in the national park. Officers later caught up with him in Bodelwyddan.

Meanwhile, a Bangor man has been spoken to today for making several non-essential travel journeys in the same day.

Although police have acknowledged the lockdown isn’t easy, they said it exists to protect everybody and the five have now been reported for COVID-19 related offences.

Inspector Jon Aspinall said: “Officers continue to monitor those coming into, and moving around the local community.

“Today we have stopped a number of vehicles and have had to prosecute a number of individuals as highlighted, who have been in breach of the COVID restrictions.

“This is necessary to protect our local community and key workers and will continue until the restrictions are lifted.

“I would like to thank the local community for their cooperation and assistance during this difficult time.”
