Paddleboarders rescued after being swept out to sea by strong winds off Colwyn Bay Beach
Two paddleboarders were rescued after being swept out to sea by strong winds near Colwyn Bay Beach yesterday.
Llandudno’s inshore lifeboat launched at 12.40pm to assist the pair who were reported to be half a mile off the coast.
Three crew members headed straight towards the given position, through choppy waters that had built up from the wind.
While en-route, the lifeboat was informed that the two people had been found, with one being taken aboard a local fishing boat, and the other being taken ashore by a jet ski which was in the area.
Llandudno RNLI said: “Once the lifeboat was on scene, they made their way to the fishing vessel, which had steamed to a more sheltered area close to Porth Eirias.
“They transferred the casualty and paddle-boards from the fishing vessel and back to shore, where Llandudno Coastguard were in attendance.
“The lifeboat then proceeded back to the boathouse, where she was refuelled and made ready for service.”
Just minutes after refuelling, the inshore lifeboat was then called into action again.
It followed reports of a person who had got into difficulty while swimming at the base of the Little Orme and was clinging onto a rock.
The lifeboat re-launched and located the individual, got them aboard the boat and took them back to the lifeboat station, where Llandudno Coastguard were once again there to offer assistance.
