A man who drove from Holyhead to Bangor to drop his girlfriend home has been arrested for alleged drug driving offences.

Police stopped the man while he was driving his car at around 10pm last night and advised him that he should be travelling for essential purposes only due to the coronavirus lockdown.

He then said he felt that restrictions had been placed on his freedom and thought it was “all a conspiracy”.

The man was arrested after testing positive for cannabis and cocaine at the roadside and was already under investigation for a separate drug drive case.

Members of the North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit said: “We understand it’s a difficult and unusual time for people. We really do.

“However, if you’re going to ignore guidelines and decide to drive after taking drugs then that’s not our fault.

“We’d also like to say a huge thank you to those who are listening to guidelines, the majority of people we’ve spoken to over recent days have been out to either do the essential food shop or have been travelling to or from work.”
