A man has been taken to hospital after falling 70 metres from a mountain in Snowdonia.

Mountain rescuers were called at 2.48pm yesterday after the man fell from Garnedd Ugain and suffered a head injury, broken leg and arm.

The Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team and members of the RAF were flown to the area by the coastguard helicopter.

Team members scrambled down to the man who was with a friend.

His friend was roped back up and walked off the mountain whilst team members treated the man for his injuries.

He was then put onto a stretcher before ropes were used to lower him off the cliff to team members at the bottom of the crag.

The man was taken to the Pyg track and carried down the mountain to a Land Rover at Llyn Llydaw.

He was later handed over to the Welsh Ambulance Service who took him to hospital.

A spokesperson for the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team said: “The team wants to thank the crew of Rescue 936 and the troops of RAF Valley mountain rescue team for all their help.”

The Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team is a fully voluntary organisation who respond to those in need on Snowdon and the surrounding mountains.

The team is on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and relies entirely on donations from members of the public to carry out this essential life-saving rescue service.

You can help with the work they do by donating via their JustGiving page.
