Man jailed for dangerous driving after leading police on chase through Bangor

Shortly after 5pm on Monday, 27 July, a PCSO on patrol in the city centre witnessed a silver Audi A3 being driven recklessly by Jordan Freeman.

A message was sent to officers, and a roads policing vehicle that was nearby came across the Audi on Caernarfon Road and signalled for him to stop. A short pursuit began up towards Minffordd.

The car eventually came to a stop after being stuck behind a bus. Due to Freeman attempting to make off from the scene, an officer deployed his tazer.

The driver was uninjured and was arrested before being taken into police custody.

Freeman of Lower Penrallt Road, Bangor was charged with various driving offences including dangerous driving & driving without a licence and insurance, and was remanded to appear before Llandudno Magistrates Court on Thursday, July 30th.

He was then released on bail to appear before crown court, and was handed an interim disqualification.

Today at Caernarfon Crown Court he was sentenced to 12 months for the incident, which led to a previous 18 week suspended sentence being activated by the judge for other motoring offences.

In total, Freeman was sentenced to 16 months and one week in prison, disqualified from driving for three years, eight months and one week, and must sit an extended re-test before driving in the future.

PC Robert Williams of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Thankfully the Audi had to come to a natural stop due to it getting stuck behind a bus and Freeman is lucky that nobody was injured.

“The consequences of driving at high speed on winding country roads is unthinkable.

“It is worrying that some motorists feel that they can behave in a totally reckless manner when they take to the roads and this case should serve as a warning to anyone who thinks it’s ok to flout motoring laws.

“Those who do should know that we will bring them before the courts.”
