Man jailed after unprovoked ‘choke hold’ attack on woman in Llandudno

North Wales news and information

A 31-year-old man has been jailed after strangling a woman in an unprovoked attack in the street.

Jake Massey of Russell Court, Farnworth, Bolton had originally offered to walk his victim home after a night out in Llandudno in August last year.

But whilst on Madoc Street, he attacked her from behind and put her in a ‘choke hold’, only stopping when a member of the public intervened.

Today at Mold Crown Court, Massey was jailed for 12 months, with a 12-month supervision order, and an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim.

Speaking after sentencing, Sgt Matt Jones said: “This was a shocking and unprovoked attack on an innocent woman, but luckily, others were present to intervene.

“Violence against women and girls is a force priority, and we take all reports of such incidents very seriously.

“I welcome today’s custodial sentence. We are committed to making North Wales the safest place to work, live and visit.”
