Man dies after being found in water off coast of Llyn Peninsula
A man has died after being found unresponsive in the water off the coast of the Llŷn Peninsula.
A large number of emergency services were called out to Morfa Nefyn Beach at around 5.21pm yesterday.
However, despite the best efforts of air ambulance, police, land ambulance, lifeboat and coastguard teams, a 72-year-old man was confirmed to have died.
A North Wales Police spokesperson said: “We received a call at 5.21pm yesterday (Weds) from colleagues at HM Coastguard requesting assistance after a 72 year old man had been located unresponsive in the water at Morfa Nefyn.
“The Air Ambulance also attended, who sadly confirmed the man had died.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious, and the local Coroner’s office have been informed.”
The Porthdinllaen Coastguard Rescue Team said: “Coastguard teams from Porthdinllaen and Llandwrog were called out yesterday afternoon following reports of a serious incident in the sea off Nefyn Beach.
“Porthdinllaen Lifeboat was very soon on scene, and was joined in the area by the Air Ambulance, the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter, Welsh Ambulance Service and North Wales Police.
“Despite the effective co-operation of all the services under the coordination of the Coastguard Maritime Rescue Centre at Holyhead the outcome was not one we would have wanted.
“We wish to thank all those involved in this multi-agency effort.”
