Major renovation work has got underway at an arts centre in Gwynedd.

With £900,000 worth of work to improve facilities, Neuadd Dwyfor theatre and cinema in Pwllhelli will remain closed for the time being as part of the capital investment by Gwynedd Council.

It will result in the redevelopment of the foyer, the creation of an accessible toilet, and upgrades to the auditorium and balcony seating.

Councillor Gareth Thomas, the council’s cabinet member for economy and community, said: “Neuadd Dwyfor is an important facility for the residents of Llŷn and the surrounding area and there is a lot of enthusiasm to see the building when the upgrading work is finished.

“We are also pleased to have secured an additional regeneration grant from the Welsh Government, which will enable us to offer flexible working areas at Neuadd Dwyfor, including the ability to hire two meeting rooms as temporary daytime work space or office.

“Our aim as a council is that the improvement at Neuadd Dwyfor will be an investment that will contribute to the regeneration of the high street in the town of Pwllheli, and become a focal point for the cultural activity of the area.”

Work to improve the library in the building will begin shortly, which will mean it will be closed until the work is completed.

However, anyone can request books by calling the library on 01758 612089 and the library service will be able to deliver the items to your home for free.

Work is also underway to create a new website and brand new image for Neuadd Dwyfor which will be launched in the coming weeks.

This will be followed by the re-opening of the refurbished library with the theatre and cinema to open in the autumn.
